On 13th December 2020 a signed and inscribed copy of Terry Pratchett's first Discworld series book, The Colour of Magic, was sold for £24,000 through online marketplace eBay. The Discworld series went on to include forty-one titles published over thirty-two years, the last of which (The Shepherd's Crown), was published some months after the author's death from Alzheimer's in 2015.

This first edition, first printing of The Colour of Magic was published in the UK by Colin Smythe. It has a six line handwritten inscription by the author which is dedicated to 'Emma', a lady who was apparently the head typesetter at the publisher's. The book was described as being in 'near fine' condition, with a 'fine' dust jacket.

This copy of The Colour of Magic was sold by John Atkinson Books of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, in England. He is a member of the ABA (Antiquarian Bookseller Association), the ILAB (International League of Antiquarian Booksellers) and the PBFA (Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association).

Terry Pratchett's first book, The Carpet People, was published in 1971 when he was just twenty-three. He went on to write over seventy books in English, many of which were translated into other languages: Over eighty-five million copies of his books have been sold worldwide. His literary achievements were recognised in 1998 when he was awarded an OBE and further in 2009 when he was knighted: Becoming Sir Terry Pratchett OBE.
